If you’re considering adding a new furry family member, then you will need to be prepared for him or her. Preparing for a kitten or puppy isn’t all that different than preparing for a human baby as he or she will need bedding, toys, care products, and other accessories. Here are some of the pet supplies that you should purchase before bringing home a four-legged friend.
Buying Pet Food
When you buy pet care supplies, you will want to buy the appropriate pet food for him or her as well. To make sure that you are buying the right food, consider his or her age, weight, and species as dogs should not be feed cat food and cats should not eat dog food. Select food appropriate for the animal’s age; if you buy a kitten or puppy, feed him or her kitten or puppy food.
Pet Bed
Every pet should have his or her own place to sleep so purchase an appropriate bed for him or her. Consider how large the animal will be when grown when you are buying a bed. It may be way too big for a few months but he or she will grow into it, probably faster than you think. With a puppy, you may want to consider purchasing a ticking clock to soothe him or her to sleep as many puppies will whine at night if they feel lonely.
Cat Litter and Litter Box
If buying a kitten, prepare to buy two different sizes of litter boxes as most kittens will have a difficult time getting in and out of an adult litter box. Some people use the cardboard trays that canned food is shipped in to the store where you buy pet care supplies. They may be able to give you a few of the cardboard trays.
